2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard Atlas Peak, Napa Valley

2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard Atlas Peak, Napa Valley

Our 2014 mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon came from Stagecoach Vineyard in the Atlas Peak AVA. This site is known for the rugged volcanic rock, well-drained soils and the cool fog that keeps the vineyard between 1-2°C below the Oakville mean temperature. Our grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon clone 4, rootstock 110R from block 7 which is a 6.42 acre block at about 1600’ elevation with extremely limited production.

Tasting Notes:

Aged in new and used Sansaud and Cadus French oak barrels for 24 months and true to the style of our 2004 Indy International Double Gold Medal winner, it is deep purple in color with aromas of red currants and blackfruit. The palate is complex with flavors of blackberries, dark chocolate and cassis. The mouthfeel is big and bold with a firm structure, vibrant acidity and excellent length.

2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Saint Coombs Vineyard, Coombsville AVA, Napa Valley

2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Saint Coombs Vineyard, Coombsville AVA, Napa Valley

Saint Coombs Vineyard is in the rolling hills of southeast Napa in the foothills of the Vaca range. Morning fog from San Pablo Bay makes this site have one of the longest growing seasons in the Napa Valley. This tiny one-acre vineyard produces a scant two tons in total. Produced from Cabernet Sauvignon clone 7; clone 7 originally came from vine cuttings at the Concannon Vineyard. Aged in new and used Bossuet and Vicard French oak barrels for 24 months, it has a dark garnet color with aromas of sweet red fruit, black cherry and wild berries. On the palate flavors of mocha, vanilla and cedar complement the balanced mouthfeel. It is of medium weight with polished tannins: a classic Coombsville Cabernet.
